And we’re back! Not only is the Yountville Bocce Club back in action after a two-week break, but this column is being shared via the Yountville Sun, which is also back, thanks to new owner Gary Jabara. Bocce club members made the most of their time off. Monday night’s Andrea and Joe Holko travelled to […]

This bocce recap begins with sad news. After playing bocce on Wednesday, May 6, our fellow club member and friend Guy Morgan, passed away peacefully in his sleep. Guy and his wife Cindy joined the Yountville Bocce Club last year and earned the “Rookie of the Year” award for Wednesday night at season’s end. Guy […]

The 2026 bocce season kicked off in Yountville on Monday, April 13. Unfortunately, a weekend rainstorm left the courts too soaked for play, and Monday’s matches were canceled. Wednesday’s group had better luck, finding dry, freshly groomed courts thanks to the Yountville Parks & Recreation crew. Fifteen teams gathered, greeting each other with hugs, laughter […]

The 2025 Yountville Bocce Club season went out in style on Saturday, Sept. 27, with the annual Championship Tournament and a festive end-of-season dinner. The excitement kicked off bright and early with the 8 a.m. Wildcard Shootout, where nine hopefuls battled for the last coveted spot in the bracket. Paula Simi edged out Dawn Conley […]

Week 18: The Dog Days of Summer Even in the dog days of summer, 15 teams showed up ready to roll on Monday, Aug. 25. Jack and Ellen Nelson had a flawless evening, sweeping all three matches and celebrating a bellringer from Jack. Mario and Barbara Pirondini matched their success with three wins of their […]

I would like to start this week’s column by remembering Marty Cardone. Marty was a beloved member of the Yountville Bocce Club and a friendly neighbor to all who live in Rancho de Napa and Yountville. Sherry and Joel Breitigam, Wednesday night court managers, said it best, “Wednesday night lost a valuable player and friend […]

The bocce teams are settling back in, now that the excitement of returning from break has worn off. Perfect scores obtained by some of us from last week took a hit early when Mario and Barb Pirondini beat us 8-1. Mario even rolled a bellringer. Quick game, but painful, nonetheless. Nadine Monroe and Violet Hover […]

Break’s over, let’s roll! Welcome back, everyone! What did you do during the two-week bocce break? Epic road trip? Staycation? Bocce camp? Let’s recap the first two weeks back on the courts. Monday, July 14 Monday night bocce continues to draw a crowd, with 11 teams attending. Priscilla Hegner and Sharron O’Neill and Bruce and […]

We were unable to attend bocce on Monday night, but somehow, the sun continued to shine and 13 teams came to play. Jim Cherniss and Mike Murrell had a great night, winning all three of their matches. Giulio and Rosella Giuliani and Mario and Barbara Pirondini were almost perfect with 23 points each. Bruce and […]
